Israel's Chilling Warning to Trump: Iranian Assassination Plot Uncovered

Israel has shared intelligence with the United States pointing to an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to The Wall Street Journal. Citing unidentified sources, the New York-based daily reported that the data was transmitted by Israel to US authorities, though no details about the alleged plan or its possible perpetrators have been disclosed.

The same information is also reported by CNN, which adds that US intelligence services have been gathering multiple pieces of information about potential plans to kill Trump, but that Israel's warning, made this week, refers to a more concrete plan. However, some US officials cited by the network suggested that Tel Aviv may have shared the information in an attempt to pressure Trump to intensify attacks against Iran.

The warning comes precisely amid an escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran, marked by recent military confrontations and cross-border threats. When asked by The Wall Street Journal, the White House deferred explanations on the matter to the President's statements during the NATO summit in Ankara.

Trump acknowledged on Wednesday that he remains a target of potential Iranian attacks and stated that there are people in Iran seeking to assassinate him. "They want to take out the leader of the US — me. I'm on every list. I saw this morning, I'm on all their lists. And so far, I think I've been a little lucky, but that might not last long," Trump declared in Ankara.

The President linked these threats to the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in 2020, a US operation ordered during his first term. US authorities had previously noted Iranian threats against Trump linked to the strike that killed Soleimani, a key figure of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was downed by a US drone in Baghdad.

In 2024, the Justice Department charged a Pakistani citizen with attempting to recruit people for an assassination plot against the then-Republican candidate, an accusation Tehran denied. This week, during the funeral of the former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranians called for revenge against the US and Israel, with many holding banners and photos reading "#KillTrump" or "Let's Kill Trump."

The new intelligence warning comes at one of the most tense moments between the two countries in recent times, after Washington launched new attacks on Iranian targets, accusing Tehran of threatening commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran retaliated with attacks on US facilities in the region.

Trump declared the truce reached three weeks earlier with the signing of a peace framework agreement to be over. The report on the alleged plot adds to security concerns surrounding the US President, who has repeatedly stated that Iran represents a direct threat. So far, neither the White House nor Iranian authorities have publicly confirmed the details of the alleged assassination plan revealed by Israeli intelligence to the American newspaper.
