Seaplane makes emergency landing in New York river

A seaplane with capacity for 10 passengers made an emergency landing in the East River in New York on Sunday, July 5. According to authorities, no one was seriously injured.

According to The New York Times, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is investigating the accident, reported that the plane made a rough landing and a part connecting the wing to the fuselage broke off. The aircraft then began to tilt.

The pilot then transmitted an emergency call and the aircraft's instruments – a Kodiak 100 – emitted audible alerts. Within minutes, vessels from the Fire Department and police arrived to assist passengers and crew.

Six people were on board the seaplane, including a 75-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter, who filmed the crash using her cell phone. "I wanted her to have a different experience, but this experience was very bad," the elderly woman told the NYT. "Thank God we are alive."
